• Prayer Request August 04, 2009

My wife and I have been married for almost 19 years. She left me in March of this year. I have been praying and holding to God, but it has gotten worse. She told me the marriage is over, and that she is filing for a divorce. I don’t know how I should feel, and really can’t say if I feel anything. I know God’s will is for us to be together, because of all the Scriptures He has shown me. I just am having problems holding on to His promise, when she says she hates me and wants a divorce. I don’t understand His plan here. As a preacher I have counseled on exactly the same thing. It is so much harder to live out than it is to talk out. Please pray that she falls deeply and desperately and irretrievably in love with God. I believe that is the greatest problem we face. God keeps telling me that she isn’t rebelling against me, she is rebelling against Him. This is His fight. I don’t hate her, I am not mad, and I don’t want to see bad things happen to her. I would just like for her to be like she used to be when we first married.

Steve, I am standing in the gap with you. I’m also going through a divorce at this time (see my request “healing and restoration of marriage”) For me it was a wake up call and a time for a self-examination. I don’t have any brilliant words of advice. Just keep your faith and trust in the Lord, be confident that it is God’s will for your marriage to be healed. Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy and we must stand up and fight against this spiritual warfare. We have to submit to reconciling God’s way and in His time. Surround yourself with godly men and a support group of prayer warriors. Know you will be in my prayers. God Bless.
